Overview
My role primarily involves the support for our brand team, working closest with the retail and product manager. I have a mix of projects that are my own key responsibilities as well as assisting others. My tasks have included: the research and analysis of data, competitor insights, work on media plans, and the organising of and participating in events.
Skills
This past year has been a period of significant growth, allowing me to acquire and refine a diverse skill set. I've strengthened core competencies such as communication (active listening, concise writing), leadership (team motivation, decision-making), creativity (innovative problem-solving, brainstorming), adaptability (handling changing priorities, learning new technologies), and time management (prioritisation, efficient workflow). These enhanced skills provide a solid base for my continued career development.
Responsibilities
I was entrusted with significant responsibility during my placement/internship. Beyond my assigned tasks, I was encouraged to explore my passions and develop independent projects, which allowed me to take ownership and demonstrate initiative. This included identifying project opportunities, defining scope and objectives, and managing timelines and deliverables. Additionally, I played a key role in picking up and overseeing tasks within my team, further enhancing my ability to work in a team. This experience fostered a sense of ownership and accountability, preparing me for the challenges and opportunities
Support & Guidance
I received a good balance of support and guidance during my placement/internship, which allowed me to develop both independently and collaboratively. My line manager provided regular feedback and mentorship, helping me navigate new challenges and refine my skills. The team was also very supportive, offering assistance and insights whenever needed, creating an environment in which i felt like i could reach out to ask for help at any time.
Culture
The company culture was collaborative, and innovation-driven. There was a palpable sense of energy and enthusiasm among employees, both interns and managers, and a shared commitment to excellence. There was regular team-building activities and social events that helped further strengthen these bonds and create a positive and supportive work environment. Especially as I worked within a brand team with a large amount of people, the ability to fit in get on well with everyone showed the welcoming/ open culture.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. It provided a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience, develop valuable skills, and contribute to meaningful projects. Here at L'Oréal I have felt a really valued member of the team that can contribute significantly to such a big brand. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to take ownership of my work and contribute to projects that aligned with my interests and career goals, as it has braced me for a life after University. The experience has also been crucial in confirming my career aspirations and preparing me for future success.
Yes
My advice for anyone applying to L'Oréal is to thoroughly research the company, its values, and its diverse brands. There is such a range of brands and roles within the company that you should really try and find somewhere specifically you are passionate about. It is also key to demonstrate a genuine passion for the beauty and cosmetics industry, and highlight how your skills and experiences align with L'Oréal's mission and values. Finally, practice your interviewing skills and be prepared to articulate clear and concise answers to questions, demonstrating problem-solving abilities and experience in overcoming challenges.
