    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • From a day to day basis I work from a work queue that has a number of different proposals from customer's looking to obtain car finance. These can be anything from a customer looking to get their first vehicle to applications for high end vehicles. We are required to review these applications to ensure that customers are all creditworthy. We also have phone hours in which we need to answer queries from retailers regarding proposals and also how best to approach different scenarios.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • A major development area has come in regards to problem solving and analysis skills, different scenarios are observed every day and the ideal decision is not always obvious. I have become more confident when having conversations with colleagues who have more experience and being able to convey my ideas. Additionally I have found I am able to assist colleagues and help new team members to make the right decision or understand areas of potential improvement.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have felt that I have been given the opportunity to increase my level of responsibility throughout my placement. From when I started it was made clear that I was considered the same level of importance as colleagues and that similar expectations were in place. I am given performance reports from my manager so I am able to track my performance and understand areas of improvement.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had a placement manager who gave me support as required throughout the placement, this was in the form as always being available if further support or guidance was required as well as more lengthy catch-ups each month to understand where I wanted to improve and the goals I had for the future. More recently I have had support about how I can begin looking for graduate roles after university

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • From when I started my team was very supportive within the office and I have been able to build strong relationships. Generally there are good interactions within the team and most people are willling to support each other. There can be situations due to hybrid working where there aren't always many members of staff in which can be frustrating. However you are always able to communicate with them virtually and seniors and managers are more consistently available.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I would say to a high extent I enjoy my placement I have achieved more in the last 12 months than I first thought I would. I have found that adapting to a 9-5 has made me more productive throughout the day.
