Overview
Supporting the learning team on major learning initiatives. Managing licence requests for our content creation tools, Creating and send a monthly Learning Edit, leading a monthly learning call for the wider learning community. I also share knowledge and expertise on our learning platforms Degreed and Cornerstone. I assist in the creation, publication and deployment of trainings in the business. I answer emails and attend meetings everyday.
Skills
developed my existing skills of communication, public speaking and collaboration. through leading on learning calls formal and informal, supporting on large projects in the learning team, working with lots of different people. I have learned new skills such as data storytelling, presenting data, excel skills, powerpoint skills, AI skills. I had a data driven project and worked with data experts in the team, I did formal training e.g instuctor-led sessions etc
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given more and more responsibility gradually, until my final few months were due to the impact of redundancies and cut-costs, I had to step-up with little support.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot at the start but due to mass redundancies, half-way through my placement I was left with no team, my manager and second direct report were both ill for many weeks. My wider team were fortunately very supportive.
Culture
Company culture was fragmented due to 2 CEOs, and 3 business strategies in the time i was there. The culture was unstable in light of all the change, which was unmotivating and at times created a toxic environment where the team was overworked.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it. It has been a unique experience overall given the state of the business at the moment. I don't think I had a normal experience but I would highly recommend a placement year to anyone considering one, because I don't know where else I would have had the opportunity to learn all these skills.
