Overview
The first day was spent with participants from other divisions, offering a broad overview of the firm’s work in areas like Investment Banking and Markets, alongside networking opportunities. The following days focused on tech-specific content, including programming challenges, problem-solving exercises, and a group case study project presented at the end of the week. We also took part in a trading simulation and heard from technologists and Spring Week alumni, which highlighted the range of roles and paths within tech in finance.
Skills
I became much more confident in articulating my technical thought process, especially when approaching problem-solving questions. Working on the case study project also helped strengthen my public speaking skills and gave me insight into how to structure and present a technical case effectively. On the technical side, I learned more about areas I hadn’t come across before, like DevOps, which really broadened my understanding of how different roles fit within the wider tech function.
Business Insight
It was very useful to learn about the range of roles available in tech, and I really appreciated how much emphasis was placed on showing that there’s more to tech than just software development. It was great to hear directly from people across different areas, speaking about what they actually do day-to-day rather than just explaining it in theory — that made a big difference in understanding what the roles are really like.
Culture
The atmosphere was amazing. Everyone I met was approachable, supportive, and genuinely happy to answer questions, no matter their seniority. There was a strong sense that people wanted to help and were really open to sharing their experiences.
Your Impressions
I really loved it. It was definitely one of my favourite insight programmes. Everything was structured so well, and each activity linked to something we’d already talked about or prepared for, which made it feel a lot less stressful. I also really enjoyed working with the people on the programme — everyone was friendly and easy to get along with.
Yes
Take the time to learn about Morgan Stanley’s culture, they’re really proud of it, and it comes through in everything they do. Be curious and ask about the tech they’re working on, because a lot of it is genuinely interesting. Most importantly, make the most of the insight by asking loads of questions and getting involved wherever you can.
