My role working within the Infrastructure Management and Maintenance department is focused on land access, easement management, stakeholder engagement, and supporting maintenance operations on existing pipeline networks. I assist in managing the land rights, access permissions, and stakeholder relationships necessary to maintain, inspect, and repair pipeline infrastructure. Day to day responsibilities include access and maintenance planning, landowner and stakeholder liaison, record keeping and reporting, site visits, monitoring planning applications, and updating GIS maps.

Through the role, I have learned new technical skills such as land and access easement management, stakeholder communication in utilities, GIS and asset mapping, compensation assessment, and regulatory and environmental awareness. It has also allowed me to develop existing skills such as professional communication, problem solving, time-management and organisation, attention to detail, stakeholder awareness and professional conduct. This has helped me to become more confident in dealing with a wide range of people.

Throughout my placement, I鈥檝e been given a growing level of responsibility as my experience and confidence have developed. In recent months, I鈥檝e taken the lead in coordinating and attending site meetings with both clients and landowners. I am solely responsible for preparing agendas and supporting materials for weekly client meetings. Additionally, I鈥檝e been trusted to manage and oversee projects involving repair works to client assets鈥攅nsuring effective communication and coordination of stakeholders.

The company has been incredibly supportive throughout my placement. I鈥檝e been encouraged to explore different roles, including assisting the minerals and planning teams. Colleagues across departments were always willing to offer advice and guidance. From day one, my team made me feel welcome and valued, creating a positive and inclusive environment. My line manager, in particular, went above and beyond to ensure I had the support, feedback, and opportunities needed to grow in my role.
