Overview
The role gives you exposure to all aspects of the business from driving sales and customer service, delivering and collecting cars, managing fleet health, and marketing with other businesses. You become captain for different areas of the business to focus on to drive business growth. Throughout the program you will complete stage folders in order to prepare you for the management qualification interview so that you are able to be promoted into assistant and branch manager roles. You will develop transferable skills in leadership, communication and teamwork.
Skills
Throughout the program you will develop valuable transferable skills in leadership, communication, adaptability and teamwork. You will gain leadership skills through taking on captaincies managing different areas of the business and managing the team when you are in control of the day. Every day you work as a team to ensure the cars are delivered on time and things go smoothly. With this you truly understand the importance of communication with the team members and customers so you know exactly what is happening in that day and provide great customer service. Additionally you will learn the importance of adaptability. Every day is different and it is important to be able to think on the spot when the day changes such as vehicles returning damaged and new bookings being made.
Responsibilities
Throughout my placement year, I have felt that I have been given so much responsibility within the branch and treated as if I was a normal employee. As an intern you can enter the intern of the year competition which gives you the responsibility to create a presentation with a new business idea proposal, share your own experiences throughout placement and host your own leadership event. You are also given the responsibility to run the day which means you are managing how that day goes and essentially become manager for the day.
Support & Guidance
Everyone in my branch was so supportive and it felt like you were working with your friends which made the workday so much more fun. They also gave guidance with completing my stage folders and preparing for my management qualification interview. Any time that I had a question they would be there to guide me to find the best answer. Additionally, my Area Manager has been extremely supportive throughout my placement, year, and given me recognition for the work I鈥檝e done. The talent acquisition teams are very supportive in your development throughout your placement year and provide you with the training you require to set you up for success.
Culture
In the branch the atmosphere was a very pleasurable place to work. The people you work with do you make a difference since you are with them for 12 hour days. In terms of the company as a whole, I don鈥檛 think they realise how many hours you are working every single day and what it is truly like to be in the branch. The day is very fast pace and high demanding and there is pressure to meet those expectations. However, in terms of philanthropy, Enterprise is a very charitable company. They sponsor numerous charities and community initiatives, and also offer employees the opportunity to complete a 鈥淢y Purpose. My Time.鈥 day, which allows you to take a paid day off to volunteer at any organisation of your choice.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Enterprise Mobility. It has significantly developed my communication and leadership skills, and I appreciated being given real responsibility, just like the full-time employees. One of the few downsides is the long hours. The workday often starts at 7:30am and doesn鈥檛 finish until 7:30pm or later. Because of this, I found it challenging to maintain a social life outside of work. Overall, I feel I have developed as a person both personally and professionally throughout my placement year and would recommend it as a placement year to learn so many new skills.
Yes
Say yes to every single opportunity that is given to you there are so many opportunities out there but if you say yes to them, it opens so many new doors. You get out of it what you put in. That was so many opportunities to progress in the company and is a very rewarding place to work. I would also advise being flexible with your evenings since you don鈥檛 often know what time we will be finishing.
