    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role is mainly customer based interactions. This is where sales and performance is based as you get customers into hire. Also, a lot of time is spent on the road, delivering & collecting cars as well as picking up customers to bring them back to branch. Behind the scenes includes managing fleet health along with captaincy roles such as marketing (visiting and promoting Enterprise to businesses), chasing bad debt and reducing risk in the business.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Having already worked in a customer-facing role, I haven't learnt anything new worthwhile to mention for customer service, however have definitely honed in on the skills I already had. I have however certainly learnt some key skills when it comes to business management and running the show. Being able to effectively deal with the fleet, finances, risk, and my fellow employees has certainly been brought upon since joining Enterprise.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given captaincy roles during my placement. Allowing me to be held responsible for certain aspects of the branch. Unfortunately, with the busy nature of Cornwall and what feels like a shortage on staff - the ability to carry out these roles effectively was hard to achieve. I was however given plenty of opportunities to 'run the ship' so to say. Which certainly helped hone all the skills mentioned earlier.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Ironically, those who were higher up in the business would provide the most help. With mentor meetings available and the ability to reach out with a simple message was definitely a big help. My direct management were also a big help, giving me the low downs on how to effectively manage a branch. However I felt this was few and far between with little to no push for me to develop my training. I was responsible for this training and yet after requesting time aside to focus on it - I was usually met with a no. In all fairness, I can't directly blame them as the branch I worked at was very busy. Additionally, throughout the year, additional requests and pieces of admin from head office just added to workload, and with a constant customer flow - almost little to no time to focus on myself.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere at Enterprise has been great. As the majority of the employees are of a similar age bracket to myself, its really easy to make friends and work well together.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed my time here. Any experience is a learning experience, and I have certainly learnt a lot here at Enterprise. The work/life balance is not the best with long hours and minimal free time. Fortunately, the overtime is more than welcome going into my 4th year at university. I have made a lot of friends and have received lots of career advice and guidance from those around me. Being at a branch in a seasonal area with competitors shutting down around us was a struggle. As mentioned earlier on in my review, I felt like an extra hand to get through the customers as opposed to what I would of wanted which is time aside to learn and develop, understanding each aspect of the business. Fortunately, I am moving into a part-time contract with the hopes I can experience different branches and learn from different management.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Enterprise Mobility
  • 1. Understand the location of where you will be working. 2. Reach out to those who are already working at Enterprise to get a better understanding of the role 3. Keep pushing for time to develop. The placement is an opportunity to develop and don't consider yourself an extra hand. 4. Expect long hours. 5. Ensure you are comfortable with customer service.
