Overview
The day to day of my role changed greatly depending on the time of year, but consistently was a good mix between structured and self led work. There were a diverse range of projects I got to work on meaning my days varied quite a lot, but had a mix of team meetings and dedicated time for projects and then quieter periods where I could self lead my own work.
Skills
I have learnt and developed my personal and technical skills a lot during my placement. Mainly, my communication and leadership skills have improved and I have built on my team work and organisation skills. I have also gained an insight into the workplace and specific processes developing my technical knowledge around recruitment/HR.
Responsibilities
I was given more responsibility than I ever expected during my placement year. I have been given various projects to work on and have had the continued support of my manager to lead and take responsibility for outcomes.
Support & Guidance
I received excellent support and guidance during my placement year, especially as I was working in a small team and therefore got lots of 1-2-1 support. My manager helped me not only with technical queries/job-specific questions but also with areas where I could develop my personal skills.
Culture
Everyone was very welcoming when I joined which made me feel like part of the company and made it easier to settle in. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with everyone in my team and have always been supported when I have asked/needed it. There was also a big early careers community on the site I joined which was great, but I had to make an effort to make friends as people are all in different buildings.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement year and have gained invaluable experience working here. I feel much more prepared to tackle the graduate careers space and now have a better idea of where I would like to go in the future. I鈥檝e also developed my personal skills greatly and have grown in confidence as the year has gone on.
