    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Overseeing development of websites for internal teams across the company. I play many roles in the management process but am also allowed to work with the internal development team on projects thus playing my own part in the creation of the websites that I manage. Day to day there is a lot of organisation of emails, keeping track of the status of various tasks for both development and management projects.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Massively built on my routine building and professionalism, but also proud of my progression in understanding of so much surrounding the development lifecycle. My communication skills in a professional environment have skyrocketed and my ability to organise my time and efforts have eclipsed what they were even at the peak of cramming during exam season at uni.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I've been entrusted with a lot more responsibility than I would've expected! Managing projects and interacting with clients seemed out of reach for an undergrad in my mind, but Pfizer have placed a lot of trust in undergrads in all roles. I have had the opportunity to oversee the development of sites for teams all over the world and learnt a range of software through practical real world projects that directly impact teams all over the business.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • there's an intended 4-6 month training period until you are assigned project management work, ensuring that you are fully equipped when the time comes. This time allows you to get to grips with the development side of web development and build an understanding of timeframes etc. It also allows you to create connections within the internal development team which makes working with them as a project manager more enjoyable and easy.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Wonderful! Plenty of other undergrads to make easy friends with and it was so easy to get on with anyone in the office. The location is a little hard to get to but being out of the city allows for easy walks and beautiful scenery. There's a wide selection of Colleague Resource Groups that allow you to socialise and volunteer, as well as some lovely smaller clubs such as football or running.
