Overview
The role involves completing various different tasks day-to-day on multiple different projects. Tasks could include conducting research, writing plans/ reports, co-ordinating tasks with other teams, running models etc...
Skills
I have developed in multiple different ways whilst being at MBDA: -> I have learnt to be more confident. Through voicing my opinion more, asking more questions etc... -> I have learnt how to communicate effectively in a professional environment. -> I have learnt to adapt to new scenarios / situations quickly. -> I increased my ability to produce longer form pieces of writing. -> I have improved my ability to conduct research. -> I have improved my knowledge within the defence domain. -> I have improved my ability on some different pieces of software.
Responsibilities
In the second half of my placement the responsibility that I was given by MBDA increased. Towards the beginning of the placement, due to the nature of the role it required quite a bit of training / getting used to. In January I would say that the responsibility became larger as the team started giving me my own pieces of work which I could go away and complete in coordination with other separate teams.
Support & Guidance
The support given to me throughout my placement by my Technical Co-ordinator / Line Manager was great throughout the placement. They were always happy to help and provided great support / help / advice at times that I required throughout my placement. In addition to this, everyone in teams that I was a part of or worked alongside, were always very helpful and happy to offer their help / advice.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was very good throughout my time at MBDA. All employees were always very kind & happy to offer help / advice out to all other members of the team, not just undergraduates / graduates. In general I believe this is due to the people that the company hires & the way in which the company treats its staff.
Your Impressions
On the whole I really enjoyed my placement at MBDA. The work that I completed was interesting, I was given good opportunities to work on a wide range of tasks & the people working at MBDA are great within the good environment the company provides. Further to this I believe that I have personally developed whilst at MBDA, which I can use for the rest of my professional career, be it at MBDA or elsewhere.
Yes
If applying to the undergraduate / graduate / summer placement schemes try to be confident. Employees at MBDA know that you are not the finished product & you will develop, but if you can be confident, through voicing your opinions & asking numerous questions that will help. Also try to show an interest in the sector itself. By showing this interest alongside the personal & technical skills that you already have, people will automatically look at you as someone with an head start.
