Skills
Prior to my placement I had no coding knowledge, so that has been a massive learning curve to now being able to comfortably code in SQL on multiple different platforms. The placement has also enhance my presenting, excel storytelling and data visulisation skills.
Responsibilities
I spent the first three months of my placement with little to no responsiblities as it was necessary I learnt the required skills but since then it has massively increased. I have been given projects to lead but with people there for me to reach out to if needed which is nice for reassurance.
Support & Guidance
Loads! My team and the wider community were super supportive in either giving me 1-1 training and/or pointing me in the right direction for online resources.
Culture
Good. As the organisation is huge there is always something going on! From hackathons to culutural celbrations in the offices to fun days to senior maager talks. There is always a buzz in the offices.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement! Of course it is dependent within what team you are placed but mine was amazing. There is always going to be the slog of learning new things and feeling like they are going slow but when you crack something the feeling is amazing. Everyone around is super supportive making it a lovely environment to work in.
Yes
Be yourself! I do a Geography Degree and was worried that I would need to oversell/change as I don't have any data science background but that made no difference!
