About You
During the 3 week insight I had a really interesting time, and enjoyed myself a lot. Although it was hard work it was very interesting and gave me a lot of insight into how that industry works - and helped me decide whether I want a job in that field in the future.
Everyone I met during the placement was quite welcoming and did their best to include me and teach me about their jobs. Obviously some things I wasn鈥檛 allowed to do or know but that鈥檚 understandable. I think the company really do their best to welcome you and make sure everything you do feels purposeful.
I had a mentor throughout my time there who was structuring my day to day activities as well as making sure I was enjoying myself and learning usefully. The support was really good I think, much more than i鈥檝e received on other similar things in the past so i was pleasantly surprised !
I think the skills i鈥檝e learnt will really help me in my degree on a daily basis, but especially in the world of work after i graduate. Lots of information was given to me about future employment and how best to go about being hired by large companies similar to them.
The Company
Very well structured, every day was planned and I got a really well rounded experience of the company i think. There was a linear progression of complexity over the time i was there and they made sure I was comfortable with all the work i was doing every day. Would definitely reccomend !
Personally I really enjoyed the whole experience but then I鈥檝e always wanted to go to airbus and see what it was like. I think the structure of the few weeks is really well planned out so nothing gets boring and you get new challenges every single day. All the people who work there are lovely as well.
I think it gave me a significant understanding although not completely as there were, quite understandably, some things i was not allowed to do. Also, my days were shorter than other employees so I probably didn鈥檛 get quite an understanding of precisely how hard they really work. I am grateful for the shorter days though
I think the days i spent there definitely helped me decide more that this is the type of career i would like to potentially go in to. The content was very good in terms of being realistically what working life would be like so made it clear i could do that as a job.
Everything Else
I traveled by public transport ( the train mostly ) to the placement and i was actually reimbursed all of my travel expenses because i live more than a certain distance away. i think they are prepared to pay most travel expenses, even contribute a bit to fuel costs if you鈥檙e driving from far away.
Not really, obviously i met other people when working but the days were really busy so it鈥檚 not as if i had time to network when i was working with other people. It is a bit of a shame because that would have been very useful for future career options after uni.
As i was only there for a short time i didn鈥檛 really experience this, perhaps a longer placement would have led to more social and networking situations. Can鈥檛 really be negative as they just didn鈥檛 happen. One way to improve the experience would be to have a couple of events like this.
Um not really but then there were not really many social situations where i could have asked employees about this and i wasn鈥檛 specifically told. I don鈥檛 know if there aren鈥檛 really any or if i just wasn鈥檛 told about them so that is definitely something that could be improved.
Yes I definitely would recommend this placement to a friend, although only one who is committed to quite hard work and long days. It鈥檚 definitely worth it and is going to be useful in both my degree and later when i enter the world of work. To be honest i鈥檇 say if you get the chance you have to take it !
